Visualizing the cover for a novel generated in a Writer’s Workshop class, a series of three possible front covers are made in Adobe Illustrator. The plot involved superheroes in an alternate history setting brought upon by a strange element, and the goal is to replicate a science fantasy novel one would see in a library or a book store.
The color palette is kept to four similar hues of violet, a color that is described often in the novel and is significant to the titular element, and the typeface, “Gala,” is chosen for its resemblance to typography seen in science fiction works to entice those interested in that genre.
The covers are worked on at a size of 11 x 17 inches in Illustrator, and once completed were brought to Adobe Photoshop and resized at 5.25 x 8 inches, the average size a novel is printed at.
